Amanda McMaine

Founder of The Essence of Yoga Center

Amanda was an internationally-recognized yoga teacher and therapist who spent her life in an intense study of body movement and a search for what truly frees and inspires our lives.

Her precise, gentle, and clear teaching style evolved from more than 45 years of experience 'on the mat' — offering a practice that was both grounded in practical, technically-precise asana and transformed by breath and the subtle body.

INFLUENCE

Amanda’s background included a lifelong immersion into all the limbs of yoga, and she was profoundly influenced by the world’s greatest teachers, such as Angela Farmer, Judith Lasater, Doug Keller, B. K. S. Iyengar, Donna Farhi, Thomas Myers, and Richard Miller.

She held a master’s degree in dance and kinesiology, Yoga Alliance certification as an experienced-registered yoga teacher at the 500 level, yoga therapist, and advanced certification in iRest Yoga Nidra.

TEACHING STYLE

Amanda's teaching came from a broad knowledge base, with freshness, warmth, and eloquence of language, as well as insights gained from decades of focused introspection on this ancient practice.

She believed that by beginning in stillness, breathing deeply, and expanding into movement, we connect to the inner core that creates and supports alignment in even the most challenging poses.

Amanda's teaching, and her profound connection to yoga’s essence lives on through each of the hundreds of yoga teachers she trained, through each of the thousands of students she connected with, and through each of us here at The Essence of Yoga Center.
